22 Apr Madison Industries’ Seakeeper and Porex Win 2019 Edison Awards
Seakeeper 2 and Porex FORTRESS™ Pipette Filter recognized for innovation and excellence in transportation and medical technology
Chicago, Illinois – April 22, 2019 – Two Madison Industries businesses, Seakeeper and Porex, have received 2019 Edison Awards in recognition of their game-changing innovation at the forefront of new product and service development.
Seakeeper, the global leader in marine stabilization, received its Gold Edison Award for Seakeeper 2, the world’s first truly practical, and only modern, anti-roll gyro which virtually eliminates boat roll on vessels 27 to 32 feet. Seakeeper’s innovative technology changes the boating experience by eliminating up to 95 percent of the rocking motion that causes seasickness, fatigue and anxiety.
“We’ve been relentless at working to change a fundamental human experience by making boating more accessible and enjoyable for everyone, and the introduction of our smallest product, the Seakeeper 2, is a huge step in realizing that mission,” said Seakeeper President & CEO Andrew Semprevivo. “We’ve been pushing ourselves every day for 11 years to bring our best innovations to market, and we’re honored to be recognized as a leader and proud to stand next to the other incredible Edison Awards winners this year.”
Porex, global leader in advanced porous solutions and member of the Filtration Group, has won a Bronze Edison Award in the medical category for its FORTRESS® Pipette Tip Filter. The FORTRESS® pipette tip filter, used in liquid handling for analytical, clinical and blood transfusion medicine markets, is a major breakthrough for the industry as the first certified pure liquid barrier filter, setting the tone for sample protection and accurate test results. The pipetting technology delivers reassurance and consistency for quality results for both manual and automatic liquid handling systems.
“This award is a testament to the capabilities of the FORTRESS technology, which is the only filter of its kind that can protect samples, contain aerosols, and prevent cross contamination as well as retrieve samples within one component,” said Jon Peacock, CEO of Porex and president of Filtration Group’s Life Sciences Business. “Our win is a huge accomplishment for Porex and reiterates our commitment to making innovative products that are creating a safer, healthier and more productive world.”
All nominations for this year’s competition were reviewed by the Edison Awards Steering Committee and the final ballot sent to an independent judging panel. The judging panel was comprised of more than 3,000 professionals from the fields of product development, design, engineering, science, marketing and education, including professional organizations representing a wide variety of industries and disciplines.
Named after Thomas Alva Edison, the Edison Awards have become one of the highest accolades a company can receive in the name of innovation and business. The awards were presented at the Edison Awards’ annual black-tie event at the New York Academy of Sciences in New York, NY on April 4, 2019. Events earlier in the day included a Meet the Innovators Forum and an Innovators’ Showcase where participating companies had the opportunity to connect with other finalists and innovators and share their products.
