Madison Industries Businesses Named Finalists for 2019 Edison Awards

Porex and Seakeeper recognized for innovation and excellence

Chicago, Illinois – February 8, 2019 – The Edison Awards, an organization which honors game-changing innovation, has named two Madison Industries businesses as finalists for the 2019 Edison Awards: Porex and Seakeeper.

Porex has been recognized for its FORTRESS™ Pipette Filter, which is setting the industry’s new standard for sample protection and accurate lab results. This new pipetting technology, certified as the first pure liquid barrier filter, provides reassurance and reliability for more accurate test results within both manual and robotic liquid handling needs, making non-filter pipettes virtually obsolete.

Seakeeper, the global leader in marine stabilization, received its nomination for Seakeeper 2, the world’s first truly practical, and only modern, anti-roll gyro which virtually eliminates boat roll on vessels 27 to 32 feet. Seakeeper’s innovative technology completely changes the boating experience by eliminating up to 95 percent of the rocking motion that causes seasickness, fatigue, anxiety and a less pleasurable experience.

“Innovation is at the forefront of everything we do at Madison Industries,” said Larry Gies, President and CEO. “Madison builds businesses that are truly customer-centric in their approach to solving problems and we are thrilled to be recognized by the Edison Awards for these achievements.”

Another Madison company, Hydra-Stop, last year received a 2018 Gold Edison Award for its Insta-Valve 250 Patriot. Hydra-Stop is the leading manufacturer of insertion valves and line stop fittings serving municipal water distribution systems around the world.

Named after Thomas Alva Edison, the Edison Awards have become one of the highest accolades a company can receive in the name of innovation and business. The Edison Awards will announce whether the finalists receive gold, silver or bronze at the Edison Awards Gala held Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the New York Academy of Sciences in New York City.

All nominations for this year’s competition were reviewed by the Edison Awards Steering Committee and the final ballot sent to an independent judging panel. The judging panel was comprised of more than 3,000 professionals from the fields of product development, design, engineering, science, marketing and education, including professional organizations representing a wide variety of industries and disciplines.
